Raised by his teen mom, Ray was initially taught guitar at age 7, by local rock and jazz musicians in the basement of his high-rise building on Chicago's tough South Side.
As a teen, Ray toured with Chicago icons like the Chi-Lites, the Dells, and the Staple Singers. After touring South Africa in 1981 and directly witnessing the oppression of Apartheid, he relocated to California. 10 yrs later he performed at the freedom celebration of Nelson Mandela, to 150,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium, with George Duke, Anita Baker and Natalie Cole.
In 2003, after 25 yrs in the ‘industry’, logging a staggering 500+ recordings, soundtracks and international tours, A. Ray Fuller realized his own creative story had not yet been told, and he was inspired to produce his 1st CD ‘The WEEPER’ (a nickname given by the late pianist/producer George Duke) and his self-produced CD ‘The Weeper’ was independently released on his own Aray Artist music label, and quickly received critical acclaim and international distribution.
A professional career now spanning 4 decades, A. Ray Fuller, is firmly established as a world-class guitarist, and remains an outspoken advocate and fundraiser for needy artists, and underserved youth and families.
