    Reggie Garrett

    Music

Reggie Garrett has been performing throughout the U.S. and Canada for a number of years. Based in Seattle, Washington he performs mostly original songs mixed with pop covers and more traditional style folk ballads. He is the purveyor of a unique urban strain of (mostly) acoustic music incorporating a number of diverse influences, including: Folk, Latin rhythms, Blues, Gospel, Celtic, Rock, Jazz and more. The result is a musical blend that has excited and touched audiences throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The sound has strong rhythmic underpinnings, beginning with Garrett’s almost percussive guitar style. The guitar work spans the gamut from Folk/Latin/Blues rhythms to even more personal styles. His singing reflects the folk/ rock/gospel traditions with which he grew up. He has been compared to acoustic legends Richie Havens and Bill Withers by the national folk publication Dirty Linen. As a songwriter Garrett’s specialty is creating and enhancing a mood.

He is the founder of Reggie Garrett & the SnakeOil Peddlers (his performing ensemble). The band travel and perform regularly as an acoustic trio (including Richard Middleton on lead guitar and Will Dowd on percussion) and as an acoustic/electric quartet with the addition of bassist Keith Lowe. More recently, Reggie has teamed up with cellist Christine Gunn in an acoustic duo that takes his music in new directions. From Pistol River, OR to Rock Island, IL; from Duncan, BC Canada to San Luis Obispo, Reggie has delighted audiences of all ages.

In addition to a history of fine live performances, Reggie Garrett has six CD releases to his credit. “Welcome to My World”, “Time Stands Still”, “Seasons” and “Something New” (his most recent release) were all recorded with his SnakeOil Peddlers ensembles. “Kates Front Porch” was his debut release as half of the Garrett & Westcott acoustic duo. All have been favorably received. “York’s Lament” in particular has been favorably received, climbing to #5 on the NACC Folk music radio chart (Feb 2023)..

Reggie Garrett & the SnakeOil Peddlers are listed in the 4-Culture Touring Arts Roster.

    BIOGRAPHY
Musician  | Composer | Educator | Creative & Culture Advocate | Social Entrepreneur

Reality has offered a fertile canvas for violinist, storyteller, educator and community enterpriser Benjamin Hunter’s endeavoring mind.

Cross pollinating multiple artistic disciplines for more than a decade, the Seattle based polymath, award winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, creative & culture advocate, social entrepreneur, and producer has dedicated his life to transforming the world’s stale status quo into a vibrant, inclusive, communal, and compassionate society.

He is the founder of Community Arts Create, co-founder of the Hillman City Collaboratory, co-founder of Black & Tan Hall, and currently serves as the Artistic Director at NW Folklife.  He served on the Seattle Music Commission from 2017-2021, and co-chairs the Columbia Hillman Arts & Culture District.

Benjamin was the recipient of the 2015 Governor’s Arts & Heritage Award and the 2016 City Arts Magazine Future’s List Award.  In 2016, his roots duo, Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons, took 1st place in the International Blues Challenge. Benjamin is a 2019 Gordon Ekvall Tracie Memorial Awardee, a 2020 Artist Trust Fellowship Awards recipient, and served a 2020/2021 Artist-in-Residence at On The Boards.

Ben plays in the internationally acclaimed roots duo, Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons; as a soloist, performing original works; and with his band, The Intraterrestrials.  In 2017, Benjamin composed music for the critically acclaimed dance piece, Black Bois, which presented at On the Boards in 2017, and The Moore Theater in 2020.  In 2023, Benjamin collaborated with Seattle and New York based artists to create Untitled, composing the music for a multi-disciplinary production with dance, visual, architectural, and storyteller artists. Connecting all his experiences in one musical language, Benjamin’s music scans the margins and the nucleus alike searching for the stories and intersections where everything converges.

In 2014, Benjamin presented a TEDx talk entitled, When Folk Music Speaks.  In 2022, he presented as the season capstone for the Chautauqua Lecture Series, entitled, The Renaissance of Folk.  Benjamin continues to speak at colleges, universities, conferences, and events across the country, and is part of the 2022/2023 Washington Speaker’s Bureau.

With so much completed already, determining Hunter’s next step is near to impossible. However, two things are for certain, whatever it is, at least a small slice of the world will be better off for it, and that endeavoring mind of his will forever be insatiable.

  • Erika Lundahl

    Erika Lundahl

    Folk

Originally from the Willamette Valley of Oregon on Kalapuya land, Erika began performing in upstate New York in 2012. She returned to the tall trees and rugged wilderness of the Pacific Northwest in late 2013. She is a multidisciplinary musician and community organizer committed to low-carbon touring in her electric vehicle. Based on Coast Salish land in Seattle, Erika’s folk medicine roots in personal and collective histories of resilience, dancing between shadow and light to seek futures of abundance, possibility and healing.
Her newest album “Messy, Blessed Infinity” is an exuberant love letter to the world, wrapped in notes that bend from energized folk rock to hushed spoken word poetry.  Refracting like light through glass, the album celebrates Pacific Northwest resistance movements like the Fairy Creek Blockade and efforts to breach the Snake River dams, and then heads inward to embrace the soft animal body within, exploring the self with songs of grief, reckonings with intimacy, heartbreak, and self care.
Record Crates United reviewed Erika’s 2020 album "Daughter, You're a Storyteller," saying: "..a stellar collection of deeply personal ballads and tributes to the heart. With songs that are inspired by the unlocking of the stories within our genetics, and seeking to explore our pasts to better understand our present adult minds and bodies."
