Amina Figarova is an Azerbaijani-born pianist, composer, and bandleader known for her sophisticated jazz compositions and expressive piano playing. Born in Baku, she began her musical journey studying classical piano at the Baku Conservatory before transitioning to jazz at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands and later at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Figarova has built an impressive career as a jazz artist, blending elements of post-bop, contemporary jazz, and global influences into her compositions. She has been a prolific performer and recording artist, leading her own ensembles and releasing numerous albums, including Twelve and Blue Whisper, which have garnered critical acclaim.
Throughout her career, Figarova has collaborated with an array of esteemed musicians in the jazz world. She frequently works with her husband, flutist Bart Platteau, who is an integral part of her ensembles. Additionally, she has performed and recorded with renowned artists such as Rudy Royston, Luques Curtis, Wayne Escoffery, and Alex Norris. Her work often features intricate arrangements and dynamic interplay between musicians, making her a respected figure in modern jazz.
