Bria Skonberg, born in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, is a renowned jazz trumpeter and vocalist celebrated for her dynamic performances that blend traditional jazz with modern influences. She began her musical journey with piano lessons before transitioning to the trumpet in her early teens. Skonberg pursued her passion academically, earning a degree in jazz trumpet from Capilano University in Vancouver. During her time in Canada, she led bands such as Bria's Hot Five and The Big Bang Jazz Band, and co-founded the all-female Mighty Aphrodite Jazz Band.
In 2010, Skonberg relocated to New York City, where she quickly became a prominent figure in the jazz scene. She co-founded the New York Hot Jazz Festival in 2013 and has performed with esteemed artists like Bucky Pizzarelli, Howard Alden, and Wycliffe Gordon. Her accolades include the Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2017 for her album "Bria." Skonberg continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her innovative approach to jazz, seamlessly fusing elements of traditional New Orleans jazz, swing, and bossa nova into her music.
Gabrielle Cavassa is an American vocalist-composer of Italian descent who is garnering attention for her distinctive voice and intimate expression. She was crowned a winner of the International Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition in 2021 after the independent release of her critically acclaimed debut album. Cavassa is featured on celebrated saxophonist Joshua Redman’s inaugural album with Blue Note Records, ‘where are we’, released September 2023.
