This year’s Fest-o-Matic series at Chickie Wah Wah will present a Sunday night tribute to the music of Jimi Hendrix performed by our friend and guitar hero Brian Stoltz and special guests including Eric McFadden and more to be revealed soon.
Brian told us recently that he has just been itching to play some Hendrix and we cannot wait to hear it! If you ask him if he caught the 1968 performance at City Park Stadium – the one and only time that Jimi performed in New Orleans – he’ll say “Oh don’t remind me! I missed it because I learned about it a week afterwards from a school buddy!” I think he has been studying up ever since!
Brian is one of the very best guitarists that New Orleans has ever produced. He’s also an incredible songwriter. He’s played with Louisiana legends the Neville Brothers, Zachary Richard, Dr. John and others. He played guitar on Oh Mercy, Bob Dylan’s love note to New Orleans. And he did all of this before his stint as the guitar player in the Funky Meters for many years, and as 1/3 of the funk powerhouse Porter Batiste and Stoltz.
In fact, Brian’s history is so fascinating, we will be doing round two of Brian Stoltz trivia this year! Check our Facebook and Instragram pages for that in the coming weeks! The person who gets the most answers right will win a pair of tickets to this show and a signed copy of his latest album, the stellar New World Rising from 2024.
But first, get your tickets here. You won’t want to miss this one.
