Zdob și Zdub is one of the most popular and long-standing bands from the Republic of Moldova, known for its unique style that blends rock, hip-hop, punk, and traditional Moldovan folklore. Formed in 1994, the band stood out for its explosive energy and the ability to integrate traditional instruments, such as the pan flute and the bass drum, into modern arrangements.
Zdob și Zdub represented Moldova twice at Eurovision, in 2005 with the song Boonika bate doba, which brought them international success, and in 2011 with So Lucky. Besides their international performances, the band remains an important cultural symbol for the audience in both Moldova and Romania, with messages full of humor and social satire.
Their lyrics often capture the essence of rural and traditional life in Moldova, but they do so in a modern and accessible way, which has helped them gain popularity among young people across different generations. Over the years, Zdob și Zdub has released numerous albums and toured internationally, cementing their place among the most iconic bands in the Romanian-speaking world.
To date, Zdob si Zdub are the only artists to have qualified from a Eurovision Song Contest semi-final three times.
