During Dolourʼs original decade (1997-2007), Shane Tutmarcʼs band was a
breeding ground for great Seattle bands that followed. At various times
youʼd find future members of Fleet Foxes, Portugal. The Man, The Divorce,
Vendetta Red, The Prom and United State of Electronica on stage or in
the studio with Tutmarc. By the time Shane called it a day with Dolour, the
whole landscape of the local music scene had been reshaped by Tutmarcʼs
fresh take on intricately-layered melodic indie pop.

For the next decade Tutmarc continued exploring - digging through his
musical familyʼs roots (which includes his great-grandfather, Paul Tutmarc,
vaudeville singer/songwriter and inventor of the electric bass and NW
country music pioneer Bonnie Guitar) with Shane Tutmarc & the Traveling
Mercies, and later he took an excursion into electronic rock with Solar Twin.
Shane also produced and wrote songs with many NW artists (Sean Nelson,
Star Anna) as well as artists in his adopted hometown of Nashville (The
Explorers Club, Tanya Montana Coe).

In late 2019, Tutmarc announced he was returning to Dolour for at least one
more album. By the time The Royal We was released in June 2020 the world
was in the midst of lockdowns, and suddenly Shane had all the time in the
world to devote to this revived project. The follow-up LP Televangelist was
was written right on the heels of The Royal We and released in April 2021.
Legendary songwriter Aimee Mann named Televangelistʼs penultimate track
Iʼm Not Mad Anymore as her “New Favorite Song,” and the album has already
made numerous early Best of 2021 lists. As the pandemic raged on, Tutmarc
continued with this revival series and this September he releases Origin
Story which features reimagined versions of classic-era Dolour songs.
This concert will be Tutmarcʼs first time performing his new material, as well
as vintage Dolour gems live on stage in over fifteen years. And after these
last couple years, I think we could all use a sing-a-long to “Cheer Up Baby”
and “You Canʼt Make New Old Friends.”
