Whether you're a parent looking for kid-friendly events or an artsy individual seeking live music and entertainment, this group is your go-to. Let's come together and embrace the best of both worlds!
GoGo Symphony was founded by composer Liza Figueroa Kravinsky, aka Lee Lee. After she posted ads for volunteer musicians on Craigslist and the Washington City Paper, she conducted the first four members in her home basement in October 2012. Things took off very quickly after that, with a more complete group performing at Washington DC's Smithsonian Mall and opening for Trouble Funk at the 9:30 Club in 2013. The ensemble joined the Capital City Symphony for the world premiere of the full symphonic performance at the 2014 Atlas Intersections Festival. “It brought the sold out house to their feet, cheering,” described the Washington Post.
Word of mouth has spread, and the GoGo Symphony has been called a “hidden gem” of the Washington DC cultural scene. We have performed for the United States Congress and collaborated with the National Symphony Orchestra. Recent performances include the Mayor’s Arts Awards, the Barbecue Battle at the Smithsonian Mall, and the festive holiday show “Twas the Night” at the Union Stage in Washington DC. Recent media coverage includes a documentary on WHUT TV’s DMV “The Beat” and “Kit Kat’s Black Music Month” series.
