Gov’t Majik - 2025 marks the 20th anniversary for Gov’t Majik. Also known by our moniker - The Dirty South Afro-Beat Arkestra, we specialize in blending afro-beat and other world music styles with the funk, jazz, rap and rock & roll we grew up on to come up with something musically that could only occur here in New Orleans. Propulsive rhythms with deep bass lines and a heavy weight horn section are our calling card.  When you put it all together we end up somewhere between Fela, Outkast and Kool & The Gang.  Twenty years in the game and it feels like we’re only now scratching the surface of what’s possible with our writing, recording and bringing new music to the stage going forward! We’ve got a tremendous new singer and front person in Ten Spencer who’s soul, passion and movement drives the band to new heights. We are inspired to carry our songs of hope, love and resistance into these trying times and we know that together anything is possible!

    Gov’t Majik is:
    Cristen "Ten" Spencer - vocals
    Eduardo Tozzatto - keys
    Bru Bruser - bass
    Danny Abel - guitar
    Peter Varnado - drums
