Joanne Brackeen is a pioneering jazz pianist and composer whose career spans over five decades. A self-taught musician, Brackeen’s bold, innovative style and fearless improvisation have established her as one of the most influential figures in modern jazz. Born in Ventura, California, she began playing piano at age 11 and was quickly drawn to the vibrant sounds of bebop. By the 1960s, Brackeen was performing with jazz legends including Art Blakey, Stan Getz, Joe Henderson, and Freddie Hubbard, making history as the first and only female member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.
Throughout her prolific career, Brackeen has released over 25 albums as a bandleader, showcasing her virtuosic technique and groundbreaking compositions. She has toured internationally, performed at major jazz festivals, and taught at renowned institutions such as Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. A recipient of honors including a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Fellowship, Brackeen remains a dynamic force in jazz, known for her inventive harmonies, rhythmic complexity, and trailblazing influence on generations of musicians.

However, we encourage you to arrive at least 90 Minutes prior to your showtime in order to enjoy full, relaxing dinner service in the Dining Room right next door, before getting seated in the Music Room for your ticketed showtime.
