"Leighton Rocks!" A benefit to kick cancer! w/ The Causeway Giants + The Action! + Los Blancos
-
In March of 2003, four friends from Syracuse, New York got together to have some fun playing Celtic Rock music. Soon, they recruited 2 other members. and then two more! They called themselves Black Thorn for about a year until a larger more established Black Thorn from Philadelphia, PA felt threatened by this rough and tumble band of humble men from the western neigborhoods of Syracuse and forced the fledgling celtic rockers to choose another moniker. Hence, The Causeway Giants were born!
Today, The Causeway Giants are six members strong, jamming over a dozen instruments, and keeping the crowds entertained for hours on end!
Using a diverse mix of music styles and tastes to their advantage, the boys have enjoyed putting a new spin on some traditional music, sprinkling in some originals and covering a wide variety of bands such as Great Big Sea, Flogging Molly, The Dropkick Murphys, and The Young Dubliners to name a few.
Although they still welcome any opportunity to play a back yard event or local pub, they have had the pleasure of playing some larger venues since they began including the Syracuse Guinness Irish Fest, The Great American Irish Fest in Utica, The Watertown North Country Irish Fest, and The Irish 2000 festival in Balston Spa New York.
One of the highlights of their years together was being invited to play at The Knitting Factory in New York City for an Irish Battle of The Bands as part of the famous club’s Irish Rhapsody Festival.
The Causeway Giants have shared billing with many local and regional acts. They have also performed with national and international acts such as, Great Big Sea, Enter The Hagis, The Prodigals, The Town Pants, The Young Dubliners, Maura O’Connell, and The Glengarry Bhoys to name a few. The Causeway Giants were also the sole opening act for the legendary Irish group The Saw Doctors at a 2008 Onondaga County Civic Center concert.
The Causeway Giants are looking forward to an exciting future; adding more songs, entertaining more people, and traveling to new places. Keep your eyes and ears open for Syracuse’s best, biggest, and most energetic Celtic band! -
Los Blancos rips through Blues, Soul, Rockin’ Zydeco, Latin, Outlaw Country, Heavy-One Funk, Folk, and a bottomless bag of tricks that’s always sure to get the party started. Over more than a decade they’ve rocked thousands of shows, and tens of thousands of miles, reveling in a genuine passion for what they do. A crew of troubadour craftsmen and kindred souls who have joined forces for the long haul, and for the love of music.
Whether he’s beltin’ out the blues, or melting the ladies with a little sweet soul music, Colin Aberdeen is an original. His honest voice and heartfelt guitars will wrap around you like your mama’s arms and just make you feel good. And we mean Damn Good! Colin will bring down the house when he’s slingin’ that slide on the guitar, too, a true-blue artisan of the roots.
Rhythms are injected by drummer Mark Tiffault, & bassist Steven T. Winston. Tiffault spent time touring with John Lee Hooker, The Kingsnakes, and most recently with Handy Award winner Carey Bell. Road seasoned chops and spirited playing create the kind of backbeat rhythm that drive right through your soul. Filling out the blessed bottom is the big, fat, bass of Steven T. Winston.
He has the experience and taste to know what fits, no matter what the style. Never content to just lay down the bootyshakin’ bass, Steven T. is a great, burly, bear of a singer, too! These guys can go chooglin’ on down like a 2 mile freight train, or float on a stone soul GROOVE.Back porch harmony, a live intensity that can’t be denied, and a massive, ever-evolving, melting pot of music, make Los Blancos a band that will stick with you for a long, long time.
