Born in an ambulance and raised on a Christmas tree farm in Maryland, artist Lukr†first
entered the world as Luke R Foley. The youngest of 3, his mashup nickname was first coined by
his late grandfather and namesake, Robert. Lacking both a TV and an interest in sports, Lukr
became fascinated with music upon the arrival of an $80 used piano. He began teaching himself
basic chords in order to learn his favorite pop songs, which when coupled with his reading
addiction helped feed into a lifelong songwriting obsession. Forming and fronting his first band
at age 17, he led them on dozens of national US tours, playing hundreds of shows before
disbanding after relocating to Nashville, TN.
Upon accidentally landing a songwriting deal, Lukr worked behind-the-scenes with artists
from LA, NY and abroad, co-writing songs that also appeared in TV shows, trailers, and
commercials worldwide. In 2016, after writing and developing his first songs in secret, he
independently made his solo debut with the cinematic single Fucked†Up†Summer†. Finding its
way to fans from around the globe, the song became a Spotify viral hit and broke a million
streams in just a few weeks. His subsequent singles have gone on to help drive channel plays
to over 12 million spins.
Self-stylized as NEON†GRUNGE†, his songs are a sonic mashup of sample-based hip
hop, acoustic folk and the 80s pop & 90s alternative music he grew up on. His uniquely textured
voice is both vulnerable and rugged, weaving among organic instruments and shimmering
synthesizers. Specific, tangible lyrics steal from intensely personal experiences to paint
powerfully relatable and nostalgic portraits of life events. His fans swear that his songs are
actually about themselves. Stylistically drawing comparisons to Lana del Rey, Post Malone and
Third Eye Blind, his music has been referred to as both “emo hip hop” and simply “Old Kanye
meets Dashboard Confessional”. A visually stunning live performance features Lukr against a
backdrop of neon LED light towers, leading two co-creators who trade off between synths,
guitars, samplers, drum machines and trap kits. Currently, Lukr is wrapping production for a
debut EP, set to release on summer solstice 2019 (21 June).
