Sullivan Fortner is a Grammy-winning American jazz pianist and composer, widely celebrated for his technical mastery, harmonic sophistication, and deeply expressive playing. Born in New Orleans in 1986, he was immersed in music from a young age, studying at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts before furthering his education at Oberlin Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music. Fortner’s style blends traditional jazz with modern innovations, making him one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. His work as both a bandleader and collaborator has earned him critical acclaim, and he won the prestigious Cole Porter Fellowship from the American Pianists Association in 2015. In 2021, he won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album for his work on Secrets Are the Best Stories with Kurt Elling.
Throughout his career, Fortner has collaborated with an impressive array of jazz luminaries. He has worked extensively with vocalists like Cécile McLorin Salvant and Dianne Reeves, bringing his nuanced touch to their performances.
