Saturday, Jan. 11th, 2025 at the WOW Hall
The Wallflower Order Dance Collective first formed at the WOW Hall in 1975, coinciding with the establishment of the Community Center for the Performing Arts at the WOW Hall – the 501c3 nonprofit, which operates the venue. In December of 1975 a multi-day “WOW-a-thon” was held to raise sufficient funds to acquire lease of the building, at which Wallflower Order performed alongside a large contingent of musicians, poets, and other performers.
“Defiance” the dance piece to be performed, was created in 1977 using sign language, written by Dorothy Miles and performed across the US and internationally. It remains a lasting and powerful work about finding one’s voice and speaking truth to power.
