Alex Northrup: Rochester, NY-based multi-instrumentalist has been at it for the better part of two decades now, turning out melodic and quirky indie rock that sits comfortably out of time. His latest offering Turning Point is the culmination of a string of self-produced releases dating back to 2017’s The Great Mundane, and the most refined version of what he’s come to term “electro chamber pop.” It’s a world full of wonky drum machines, swirling vintage keyboards, jangling guitars, and ear-catching songwriting.
Alex has been a fixture on the local scene, fronting guitar power-poppers Northern Spies and playing in groups like the Demos, Jon Lewis Band and Overhand Sam. He has recorded and toured nationally with Kill Rock Stars artist Sean Barna. All of this in between session work for various regional bands.
Onstage, Alex offers both solo performances and ones backed with his band The Darlingtones. The Darlingtones features a revolving cast of guest performers around the rhythm section of Sam Hirsh (drums) and Ryan Yarmel (bass).
